FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY FOR THE DISTRICT OF MASSACHUSETTS CARMEN ORTIZ
JOINS CROSSROADS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
BOSTON (June 28, 2018) – Crossroads, a youth development organization seeking to close the achievement and opportunity gaps by providing participants with summer and school-year programs that help them become economically independent citizens, socially responsible leaders, and emotionally connected adults, announces the election of a new board member, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Carmen Ortiz.
“Carmen’s work in Massachusetts as the U.S. Attorney, particularly implementing the District’s first Civil Rights Unit, is not only impressive but also deeply aligned with the beliefs we espouse about access and opportunity here at Crossroads,” said Crossroads President Simon Hess. “Carmen’s ability to advocate for those whose voices may not be heard is exactly the example we’re trying to set for our leaders.”
“I am very excited to join the Crossroads Board of Trustees and am looking forward to working with them on empowering youth,” said Ortiz. “All young people deserve the knowledge and resources they need to make a difference in the world and Crossroads is extremely dedicated to making that happen. Their programs allow for youth to be deeply connected to a network of peers and mentors for up to 12 years of their lives, and to provide them with the tools to help them achieve their goals. That is unparalleled.”
Carmen Ortiz currently serves as Counsel at Anderson & Kreiger LLP, in Boston. She has extensive experience as a trial lawyer, investigator, and crisis manager. Her practice focuses on internal investigations, corporate compliance, civil litigation, and white-collar criminal defense. Carmen also has significant experience with sexual harassment investigations and claims.
Carmen’s election to the Board reflects Crossroads’ continued growth as a thought leader in the Boston-area youth development sector. Organizational leadership is making a concerted effort to share Crossroads’ transformational outcomes with a larger audience by building strategic partnerships with change-makers and influencers in Eastern Massachusetts.
