HAMMER TREK SESSION 1 ITINERARY
Arrive at NOLS Northeast: 730 State Road 86 Gabriels, NY 12939, at 3 p.m. by C5 contracted bus. C5 pays for the evening’s dinner for students and C5 site staff members. Course orientation after dinner. Students camp at NOLS branch facilities.
DAY 2 (Wednesday, July 4)
Prepare equipment and food, transport to road head, introduction to basic self-care skills and expedition behavior and positive learning environment.
DAY 3 (Thursday, July 5): Instructors lead and travel day
Introduction to 4/7/1 leadership model. Focus on self-leadership and developing basic technical competence feedback, brief responsibilities of first leaders of the day.
DAY 4 (Friday, July 6): Students lead and travel day
Decision-making styles, risk management techniques, stages of group development and brief leaders of the day.
DAY 5 (Saturday, July 7): Students lead and travel day
Tent group feedback sessions, communication tools: interpersonal gap, awareness wheel, conflict management and brief leaders of the day.
DAY 6 (Sunday, July 8): Students lead and travel day
Layover day, possible peak climb, high functioning teams, tolerance for adversity and uncertainty, self-awareness and brief leaders of the day.
DAY 7 (Monday, July 9): Students lead and travel day
Leadership styles, letters to self, reflection time and brief leaders of the day.
DAY 8 (Tuesday, July 10): Students lead and travel to road head
Pick up and transport to NOLS Northeast, de-issue and shower. Administrative debriefing and banquet lunch. C5 pays for the evening’s dinner for students and C5 site staff members.
DAY 9 (Wednesday, July 11): Depart NOLS Northeast at 8 a.m. by C5 contracted bus to Boston.
