With signs of spring all around us, we are busily preparing for our community’s joyful homecoming this summer with overnight sessions at Camp Wing, Camp Mitton, and Camp Lapham, as well as modified versions of our National Outdoor Leadership School “Hammer” Trek, the Road to College Tour, and the ACT NOW Summit.
We are also pleased to share that we have been selected by the Boston Public Schools to be an official Summer Learning Academy site. We recognize that the pandemic has led to epidemic levels of disparity in the educational experiences of the young people we serve in comparison to those who reside in more affluent communities. Given this context, Crossroads is designing a 25 day/overnight Summer Learning Academy camp session that will exclusively serve 160 Boston Public Schools students. This session will run from June 27-July 21, 2021, and will incorporate two hours of math and two hours of literacy instruction, taught by certified teachers, into each weekday. This dynamic academic enrichment will be integrated with swim lessons, team sports, ropes courses, biking, hiking, boating, archery, arts and crafts, and mentoring—attending to the intellectual and social-emotional needs and aspirations of each child.
We are proud to be part of a network of schools and community-based organizations that are working to address unfinished learning from the last academic year. We will continue to innovate and build upon our 85-year history of providing transformative summer experiences for the children of Greater Boston, and invite you to join us in supporting the brave, resilient, and hopeful young people of Crossroads.
